He was inducted into the National Rockhound and Lapidary Hall of Fame in 2001. He has been a consulting editor for Rocks & Minerals since 1998, and he served on the board of directors for the Society of Mineral Museum Professionals from 1996–1999. Wilson was the lead organizer of the Carnegie Gem & Mineral Show, one of the most prestigious shows in the country, for all nine years of its existence. His research on new techniques for mapping, remote sensing, and specimen analysis and curation have appeared in such publications as The Mineralogical Record, Rocks & Minerals, American Mineralogist, Journal of Geochemical Exploration, and Journal of Archeological Science. Wilson’s extensive experience includes museum and specimen management, exhibit generation, organization of mineral symposia, and mineralogical investigations of active and abandoned mine sites. Wilson received his MS in geology/mineralogy (1979) and his BA in geology (1975) from Michigan Technological University. Mineralogist Marc Wilson is curator of collections for the Section of Minerals at Carnegie Museum of Natural History.
